Amal Hamid joined Zakat Foundation of America in 2015, not long after about 20 years at the American Embassy in Sudan (she is originally from Khartoum) and the American Consulate in Jeddah. She worked in the procurement section, human resources and as a contracting supervisor. Her time in the state departments led her to meet U.S. presidents, First Ladies, Secretaries of State and Secretaries of Defense.
As a loyal employee, she was granted the Special Immigrant Visa, which allowed her to move back to the country where she graduated high school while her parents were in graduate school at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Amal got her Bachelor’s Degree in Organization Management from Ahfad University for Women in Sudan.
She started in Zakat Foundation’s Programs Department and then moved to the Operations Department. Currently, Amal Hamid is Operations Director at Zakat Foundation and a single super mom to three college students. She even gained U.S. citizenship in 2018.
