2013 ZAKAT FOUNDATION OF AMERICA RESPONDS TO MALI FLOOD CRISIS
Zakat Foundation of America (ZF) Executive Director, Khalil Demir, visited Mali to witness the devastation and widespread displacement caused by the Tuareg rebellion in a country that was already one of the poorest countries in the world. According to the United Nations, approximately 5 million people have been affected by the crisis; 4.6 million people remain at risk for malnutrition.
Shortly before Mr. Demir’s visit, floods ravaged the capital, Bamako, spreading disease, and causing additional destruction of infrastructure and food supplies. ZF is committed to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Mali through healthcare and education. Watch the video above for more on ZF relief efforts in Mali.
