Poverty and its unfortunate consequences of undernourishment, inadequate health care, lack of education and unemployment weigh heavy on the people of Mali. Nearly fifty percent of the people in the country live below the poverty line. They struggle with chronic malnutrition, insufficient access to water and meager living conditions.
Sixty-five percent of Mali’s land area is either desert or semi-desert. Its low level of agricultural production and its high vulnerability to drought makes the country one of the most undeniable cases for humanitarian assistance in the world.
