Shinile Woreda School - Ethiopia
Construction & Renovation
The Shinile Woreda district of the Somali Region of Ethiopia is a rural area that has been hit hardest by famine and locust infestation during the last decade. Along with this economic strife, it is a sad reality that there is no established education system or learning facility for the children of Shinile Woreda.
Only a few who have the monetary means are able to send their children to the neighboring county of Djibouti for school.
The Zakat Foundation realizes how essential education is for the sustainable development of a community. In early 2007, Zakat Foundation built Shinile Woreda’s first full- time elementary school. The school was to consist of four large classrooms to accommodate the boys and girls of the area. By the Grace of God, and with the enthusiasm of the community fueling the work, the school was completed within months to begin classes on schedule.
