One hundred needy Muslim families in the southernmost island province of the Philippines known as Tawi-Tawi were the recipients of Zakat Foundation Ramadan food packages this year. After speaking with local leaders to determine which fasting families would be most in need of the packages to prepare their suhur and iftar meals, Zakat Foundation's local partner prepared and distributed to each family parcels that included the staple foods of the region: dried fish, sardines, sugar, coffee, rice, cooking oil, soy sauce and vinegar. Although the sizes of the families vary, it is estimated that the quantities of food provided should last each family for at least a month.
The beneficiary families expressed their gratitude to receive the food packages from Zakat Foundation donors which they say will allow them to concentrate on their fasting instead of worrying about trying to procure enough food to make their breaking fast meals.
Food package distribution is an important part of Zakat Foundation's annual Ramadan feeding program. With the help of our generous donors Zakat Foundation is able to distribute food packages and warm iftar (breaking fast) meals to the poor and needy in thirty-three countries around the world.
