In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly established World Refugee Day as a day to recognize the plight of millions of people forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, and human rights abuses.

Since its inception, Zakat Foundation of America has been dedicated to serving refugees and displaced persons around the world through providing short-term relief work as well as long-term sustainable development projects.

Our work with refugees and internally displaced persons is one that spans continents— but remains connected by our core belief in human rights and dignity for everyone regardless of background.

Whether providing humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh or creating long-term sustainable development initiatives for Syrian children and youth in Turkey, Zakat Foundation is committed to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable populations in the world.

Our work currently impacts hundreds of thousands of refugees in Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe, and North America. On this World Refugee Day, we recognize the humanity in every refugee story as we continue to serve and advocate for the rights of refugees and displaced persons around the globe.
