Bolivia is one of the most impoverished and least developed countries in all of Latin America. Since the 1980’s the country has struggled with an ongoing economic crisis. Problems mounted in recent years due to political instability, racial tensions, and violent protests. Among other issues, since the 1980’s Bolivia has faced the challenges of widespread poverty, illegal drug production and drug trafficking.
In 2011, numerous mudslide disasters displaced many impoverished communities. Few of these communities have been able to resume the normal activities of daily life.
Multiple humanitarian relief efforts in Bolivia’s impoverished areas focus primarily on rebuilding communities struck by natural disasters.
